Breman Museum Online Speaker Series: Savannah Colonial History

Event Details

Deerskins and furs were the most valuable commodity produced in the British American colonies. My talk will focus on Jews and interaction with Indigenous peoples centered on this trade in colonial Georgia and South Carolina. A key individual will be Moses Nunes, a member of the most important Sephardic family among the earliest Jewish settlers in Savannah. Yet the discussion will also takes us back and forth to England, besides linking northern and southern Jews. 

Mark K. Bauman retired as a professor of history at Atlanta Metropolitan College. He is the author of biographies of Southern Methodist Bishop Warren A. Candler (recipient of the Jesse Lee Prize) and Rabbi Harry H. Epstein, as well as American Jewish Chronology (2001).
