Presented by Bent Frequency, The Breman Museum and Neranenah
THURSDAY APRIL 1 | 7 PM
Classical music has long had an inclusivity problem. Bent Frequency’s mission is to do better in their corner of the contemporary classical music world. BF strives to better reflect the incredible spectrum of artists contributing to contemporary music through consciously crafting and curating programming. This program, Mirrors (Mare’ot), features extraordinary music by six women of Jewish heritage and conversations surrounding their process and their art via zoom following the program.

“Mirrors (Mare’ot)” will include music by Lera Auerbach, Alyssa Weinberg, Gabriela Lena Frank, Judith Shatin, Nomi Epstein and Betty Olivero. Though they are renowned composers, the concert will mark the Georgia concert debut for compositions by all six.
“Women face many obstacles in classical music,” according to Bent Frequency, which cites a study showing that only 5 percent of the music played by professional groups in the U.S. is composed by women. Music by Jewish women is even less frequently performed despite there being a wealth of talented composers.
A Georgia State University ensemble-in-residence, Bent Frequency has been hailed as “one of the brightest new music ensembles on the scene today” by Gramophone magazine.
A leading Atlanta cultural institution, the William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum is celebrating its 25th year in 2021. The Breman’s mission is to “connect people to Jewish history, culture and arts.” The nonprofit multidisciplinary center is presenting ambitious virtual programming such as “Mirrors” while its doors are temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Mirrors” is presented by The Breman Museum, Bent Frequency and Neranenah.
