Featured Workshop

Folk Art Fabric Strange Characters

With Flora Rosefsky

In this featured workshop participants will be creating their own Wild Things! Without any sewing, create a character that uses recycled newspaper, scrap fabrics and yarn. Be inspired by Sendak's Wild Things or run with the wild things of your own imagination and use objects that have a link to the personality you are trying to depict. Participation in this workshop is $25 for non-members and $18 for members (includes museum admission for the day), and the number of participants will be capped at 25 individuals. In order to reserve your spot in the Folk Art Fabric workshop, please use the registration button below.

About Flora Rosefsky:

"Visual arts have been an integral part of my life from my earliest memories of loving to draw, paint or 'do art projects.' Besides using the more traditional pens or brushes, I emulate Henri Matisse’s credo to 'draw with scissors,' creating lines and shapes by directly cutting into the color using recycled drawings, painted papers, archival store-bought handmade papers or photographs. In addition, I may incorporate twigs, hairpins, vintage records, rare fabrics or ephemera into my work. My work is often spirituality driven and artistically inspired by my Jewish heritage; I express a connection to this heritage through collage and mixed media work, stained-glass window and quilt designs, and Judaic-inspired art. Yet I also am interested in exploring how personal photographs can become intimate abstract compositions. I began my career as a self-taught folk artist living in Upstate New York, enrolling in art courses at Syracuse University and Binghamton University as my four children were growing up. Soon after I found my own studio space, where I competed in regional and national shows. I continue on that path in Atlanta, along with having had several solo shows throughout the Southeast. Presently I work at my studio located at the Sycamore Gallery & Studios in Decatur, GA, and continue working as a teaching artist conducting artist residencies and workshops. I am a member of the Women’s Caucus for Art, WCA-GA chapter, American Guild of Judaic Art,Atlanta Collage Society, Atlanta Photography Group, pARTicular Women Artists, Pomegranate Guild of Judaic Needlework–Peach State Stitchers, Atlanta Chapter and a Signature Member of the National Collage Society."
