Join Steve Oney, the foremost historian on the Leo Frank case, as he discusses a devestatingly tragic case of Antisemetism in America and a pivotal moment in Atlanta’s Jewish history. The class will be moderated by founding archivist of The Breman, Sandra Berman, who devoted her career to collecting original historic items from the case and curated an in-depth exhibition that traveled around the country.
BIOGRAPHY
Steve Oney is the author of And the Dead Shall Rise: The Murder of Mary Phagan and The Lynching of Leo Frank 
(which can be purchased here). The book received the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award and the National Jewish Book Award. He is also the author of A Man’s World: A Gallery of Fighters, Creators, Actors, and Desperadoes, a collection of magazine articles drawn from his long career writing for GQ, Esquire, Los Angeles Magazine, The Atlanta Journal & Constitution Magazine, Time, and other publications. He is presently working on a history of NPR for Simon & Schuster. He was raised in Atlanta and educated at the University of Georgia and at Harvard, where he was a Nieman and a Shorenstein Fellow. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, designer Madeline Stuart.
Sandra Berman was the founding archivist of the Cleveland Jewish Archives at the Western Reserve Historical Society.
After moving to Atlanta, Berman became the founding archivist of the Joseph and Ida Pearle Cuba Archives for Southern Jewish History at the Breman Museum, which was then the Jewish Community Archives and operating out of a closet at the Atlanta Jewish Federation. During her 28-year tenure, Berman grew the archives into the largest repository for Jewish history in the region and co-curated multiple exhibitions at the Breman Museum.
