December 5, 2016 to February 26, 2017
In celebration of the 20th anniversary, a unique display of art will be held inside the Blonder Gallery with the goal of highlighting the diversity of Atlanta’s Jewish-owned collections. From the delicate works on paper of the 1800's to innovative 'art of the now,' Atlanta Collects presents both the "breadth and depth of Jewish Collectors in our home city," says the museum's Executive Director Aaron Berger.
The exhibition features paintings, sculpture, glass and non-traditional art from different periods to show the wide array of holdings in private collections. The first installment features historical art. The second installment which will be March 12 until June 11, 2017, will feature 'art of the now'. The two-part exhibition will feature seldom-seen works by Wassily Kandinsky, Edgar Degas, Pablo Picasso, Edouard Manet, Marsden Hartley, Mary Cassatt, Andrew Wyeth and many others.
The curator of Atlanta Collects is Dr. William Eiland, Director of the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia. "It is about the collecting patterns of the individuals and the works that best represent their interests, their passions, their knowledge," he says, "I'm interested in all kinds of art and I was gratified by the quality and quantity of works available from Jewish collectors."
